TIFFANY & CHAD

Tiffany and I met at Xavier in 2000 through friends and family. We were two, small-town kids living in the Big Easy earning our degrees. When she told me that she was from Fayette, AL (which is where my mother grew up) I immediately considered her like family. I graduated in 2002, a few classes ahead of Tiffany. Fast forward 5 years and I am living and working in Birmingham. One day I am taking lunch away from the laboratory by walking through the mall when I notice a familiar smile as I am going down the escalator. Tiffany was going up the escalator and without thought I returned to the top floor to reconnect.... We exchanged phone numbers to hang out. Two dates later, she had fallen asleep during the dates, twice. Ego bruised, I digressed. lololol. But I kept up with her, like many dear friends, through social media. I blinked and 8 more years flew by. I welcomed an amazing daughter into my life and was coming out of a particularly draining relationship. There was a "No Relationship" concrete wall firmly in place. My focus was squarely on my career and family. I would work 10-12hrs days, walk through the mall for connection with people away from work as a means of decompressing before seeing family, and play tennis to pass my time. One night, I had the strangely wild idea to download one of those "swipe-for-like" phone apps. I didn't even play with the app; just felt some type of accomplishment for having downloaded it. (The border wall was starting to show some vulnerability.) A couple days later while sitting in traffic on my way home, I pulled the app up and gave it a whirl. I had passed on virtually every face that came up until I recognized a familiar smile that elicited one of my own. I felt that same peaceful calm as if I was smelling the escaping breeze pushing past pine trees at my grandmother’s house. It was an elemental, quieting feeling. I swiped right to "like" expecting the next face to come up despite being singularly satisfied with putting the app down. But the story didn't end there. Tiffany, in her own universe, had done the same and we started to message like we were new-old friends! We exchanged numbers again and as if falling asleep on me twice wasn't bad enough, she turned down a free ticket to the Iron Bowl...smh (Ego obliterated). I chose not to give up so I met her on my way back home from the game and the love affair started..... between myself and Lilly, Tiffany's 10lb Malti-Poo.

(Tiffany’s insight) Yes!! Everything Chad said was true from meeting at Xavier and me falling asleep on him on two occasions...to my defense I was extremely tired from working both days. Lol I have always thought highly of Chad since the first time we met. He is an intelligent, handsome, and caring person; however, in my preparation I never really saw him as more than a friend. One night while I was attending a Dave Ramsey’s class with some co-workers, I noticed that one of them was exploring a “dating” app. I asked her about the application and she convinced me to open up an account. If anything, I thought that it would give me a laugh seeing how people were “selling” themselves to complete strangers to date. To my astonishment on that very first night, I saw Chad’s handsome face and beautiful smile. I was so torn if I should swipe left or right because I thought he was in a relationship; but, I also knew he was a very nice guy. After 10 minutes of going back and forth in my head on what to do, I finally decided to swipe right. We reconnected, for the third time, and it was like we were long lost friends just catching up. I admit, I turned down tickets to the Iron Bowl but in my defense I was scheduled to work during the time of the game. I thought it was really sweet of him to stop by my house on his way back to Huntsville to visit. After that night, I knew that Chad was the one that God placed in my life to be with.

Power couple in the making

It all began at Xavier University...

We are extremely excited about this occasion in the lives of our families and we pray that you will choose to be a part of what we desire to be a “Family Affair”! To us, family is the relational unit that God gives us to instantly exercise His gift of love. It makes relationships easier outside of our comfort zone until the comfort zone is erased and we are capable of loving in His image.

The weekend will have a noticeable Cajun, cosmopolitan flare. We have decided to be traditional in many aspects of this special weekend; however, we also want each of you to enjoy any of the numerous historic city attractions while celebrating the union of two lovebirds who met in the “Big Easy” but found love in the “Magic City”.

To us, you're like family.
